چکیده

the main objective of this study was to investigate the effi ciency of biological treatmentof azo dye-containing wastewater with a sequencing batch reactor system, followed by ultrafi ltration.the performance of the system was quantifi ed by measuring the chemical oxygen demand and azo dyeconcentration. the biodegradation was carried out under combined alternating anaerobic and aerobicconditions with nylosan yellow e2rl sgr as a model azo dye contaminant. the bioprocess revealed amaximal reduction of chemical oxygen demand and dye removal effi ciency of 91% and 85%, respectively.after ultrafi ltration of effl uent from the biological treatment, the effi ciency increased to 94% for chemicaloxygen demand and to 97% for the azo dye decolourisation. samples of activated sludge from the bioprocesswere collected for microbial characterisation. bacteria and fungi were isolated and identifi ed by 16s rrnagene and its1-5.8s rdna-its2 sequence analysis, respectively. serratia marcescens and klebsiellaoxytoca were the most common bacteria with the highest number present during the aerobic and anaerobicphases of the bioprocess. in addition, a high number of elizabethkingia miricola, morganella morganii, comamonas testosterone, trichosporon sp. and galactomyces sp. were detected. taken together, ourresults demonstrated that the sequencing batch reactor system combined with ultrafi ltration is an effi cienttechnique for treatment of wastewater containing azo dye. moreover, the ultrafi ltration effectively removesthe microbiota from the fi nal effl uent resulting in stable product water.

Decomposition of a Di Azo Dye in aqueous solutions by

This study examined the photolytic degradation of C.I. Acid Red 73 AR73 diazo dye, in aqueous solution by combined UV, hydrogen peroxide and KMnO4. A continuous circulated photoreactor equipped with a low pressure mercury lamp 15 W, emission 253.7 nm was used. In the first step, potassium permanganate was used for decolourisation of AR73 dye solution. The effect of the key operating variables s...

Bio-decolourization of azo-dye under anaerobic batch conditions

Anaerobic treatment system was used for determination of colour removal under batch conditions. Azo-dye (Reactive Black 5, RB 5) with glucose as a carbon source was used as a synthetic wastewater. The decolourization process follows first order kinetics with respect to RB 5 azo-dye concentration in batch conditions. Decolourization rate constant (k1) value for dye concentration of 150 mgL was 0...

Decolorization of Methyl Orange (As a Model Azo Dye) by the Newly Discovered Bacillus Sp

A bacterial strain (strain PS) was isolated from the textile effluents carrying Serilene Black BNFS® (C.I. Disp. Blk. Mix) disperse dye. The isolate was able to decolorize the dye without the need for any exogenous carbon source. Full sequencing of its 16S rRNA indicated that Bacillus sp strain PS is related to Bacillus cereus groups.  Silica- gel-thin layer chromatography of Ser...
